How to Wear It: Flashy Hat for this Weekend's Kentucky Derby (Party)

Celebrities at the kentucky derby

Might you be lucky enough to be attending the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs this Saturday, I'm sure you have had your 'look' picked out for weeks. For those of you who are just attending a Derby Party this weekend, my main goal is to make sure YOU are the most fashionable lady there.

Providing some celeb inspiration above...I'd like to welcome Chelsea Clinton to RWD as this is her first fashionable feature and lady looks glam. Actress/Model Isabel Lucas' style is much more in tune with something I'd don but I'm also loving Heidi Montag's bright Spring florals too. Molly Sims' necklace is to die for and quite the statement maker while Gabrielle Union's (whom I actually spotted sun bathing at the Ritz St Thomas) color scheme is near perfection and easy to emulate.

This is one of the first years I haven't attended a Derby party, but I might just don a fancy hat in its honor. RWD Fam is heading out for a good friend's Birthday. A couples play-day, if you may...boys golf, ladies get pedis/shop and we all meet up after for some cocktails and grub...fun!

Might you be a Texas reader? Or possibly in Austin this weekend...my good friends, the Charitable Ladies, are hosting their Annual Derby Days (Facebook LINK) at the gorgeous venue, The Belmont! It benefits a different charity every year. I know many of these amazing ladies and they are fabulous, fun, fashionable and are always up for a good time...get yourself there if you're in the area!

Lastly, I've definitely provided some supreme Derby Hat speedy-savvy-stylin' below. Maybe you're scrambling for a last minute hat...or just in need of a fun one for the impending Summer heat, I've got you covered (pun intended). My faves are all shown on the first page but definitely glance through them all...some show-stoppah's for sure. Enjoy and cheers  with a bit of a mint julep, eh? "Ding!"

Wardrobe Essential: Black & Sexy Straptastic Sandals - Seen On Heidi Klum, Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens and Kim Kardashian

Celebs in black strappy sandals

It's the battle of the sexy bondage sandal. Not just a Fall/Winter trend...these kicks go the distance and can be worn year round. Bondage, gladiator, strappy and just pure sexy...a show-stopping black sandal should be your go-to accessory of the year. Yes, those are big words but I firmly back it up. They honestly pair well with pretty much...everything!

Pair them with florals (just like Demi Lovato above) or spice up last year's LBD (Heidi Klum shows us how). Klum won my Gold Star of Style as her look is simple, sexy and easy to emulate! I'm on the tentative search for a new pair as my last years version have had a good run. What am I looking for? I want so many straps that my eyes cross! For this fashionista, the more straps...the better. I've added some speedy-savvy-stylin' below with all heels under $250. My top three choices are seen in the first column. What straptastic beauties caught your eye? Enjoy!

A-list Accessory: Bright Colored Bags à la Ali Larter and Zoe Saldana

Ali larter and zoe saldana

Bright bags...I am so in need of a new Spring one! This is a ridiculously easy way to jazz up any ensemble. Throw on all neutral tones and just add a bright bag. Voilà...completely idiot proof! Add minimal accessories to let the bag be that stand-out statement piece.

I've added the above inspirational pictures of the always gorgeous Ali Larter and ever stylish Zoe Saldana. Both ladies have kept it simple on the ensemble color scheme and then pumped it up a notch (or two) for their bag selection hues.

As usual, some speedy-savvy-stylin' below for grabbing up the perfect bright pink or hot yellow handbag for Spring. Look closely, that's no red bag Larter is carrying. I'm in love with the Botkier Layla bag in hot pink and might have to get my grubs on the statement making Rumor yellow clutch for an upcoming soirée. Get to it, my lovely readers...enjoy!

Real-life Runway: Miley Cyrus in Hervé Léger by Max Azria

Miley cyrus in herve leger

When I saw this photo of Miley Cyrus in stunning mini from Hervé Léger by Max Azria's Fall 2009 Collection I was stopped fast in my web surfing tracks. I love, love, LOVE it! The fit, accessories, hairy and makeup are supremely perfect!

Model Anna Selezneva rocked the same frock on Azria's NY Runway in mid February looking a bit more rocker chic in her moto-boots, black nails, pulled back pony and sans accessories. This is an easy one for me...I'm team Miley all the way!

Reader Fave/Rave: Leslie J Needs Fashionable Heels for a Cute Spring Dress

Leslie

A dear reader and friend sent me this inbox request a few weeks ago and I was eager with excitement to get right back to her. Then I asked her if I could make it a Reader Rave/Fave. Upon her agreement, I got feverishly to work on this here delicious post, as shoes are one of my fave accessories.

Many of us struggle with 'what shoes' to wear with a certain ensemble on a constant basis. Frustrating? Yes. We ask a boyfriend, we ask a hubby...we ask a friend. At first I was thinking silver (which I DO believe would go perfectly well, too) but after pairing some silver heels with this J.Crew goodie I realized it was the wrong combo. They took away too much for the precious frock.

Next up, I moved onto gold and this is where I saw a definite marriage of colors; coordination and subtlety being key. The gold played, ever so nicely off of the orange tone in the flowers without overpowering and stealing the show. A winner for sure. I've provided both some casual and some dressy options below, depending on where Miss Leslie plans to don this Springtime goodie.

Casual Gold Sandals:
(Click Thumbnails to be Directed to ShopStyle for Info & to Buy!)

Fancy Gold Heels
(Click Thumbnails to be Directed to ShopStyle for Info & to Buy!)

Then I got to thinking how I would personally style this dress if it were my own? You know it...precisely what I've shown you next. I'd actually belt the waistline, covering up the center row of flora and purchase some perfectly matching strap-happy heels. (Sidenote - The closer the heels are to your own skin-tone the more they will elongate your legs, so make sure to take that into consideration when purchasing your belt and heels combo!) As I do many looks, I'd put a blazer (in this case, white for Spring) on top and then add a pop more of color with a turquoise clutch.

Below my styled look, you'll also find some nude/light brown heeled options too! Miss Leslie, I hope this gives you a great start on shoe shopping for this adorable Springy frock. As long as you keep the flats/heels very subtle and not overpowering, they'll be a great combo to this bright and festive stunner. You're gonna look gorgeous for sure...enjoy!

Personal Peek: Fancy Frocks and Q&A with Model Bri Stewart from Monique Lhuillier

Monique lhuillier pre fall top 5

When I viewed Monique Lhuillier's Pre-Fall Collection back in December I remember thinking to myself, 'Ahhhhh, aren't all the fabulous socialites going to be pleased with this one!' But little did I know that one of my own family members would be galavanting down the runway in the Collections most talked about frock; a gorgeous strapless tea-length ball gown done up in thousands of ostrich feathers! I am one proud cousin! Have you ever wondered what it might be like to walk for such a huge designer? Well, read on, dear readers!

Recently, my younger cousin Bri Stewart had a chance to walk in a Monique Lhuillier show in Nashville, TN. This isn't Bri's first big show...but it's probably her biggest to date. (More about that in the Q&A below). Also in attendance was super fashionable and ultra cool Country Music Band Lady Antebellum. You all know my love for Country Music so for once, I can't say which celebrity I'm more green with envy that Bri got to meet; Lady A or Lhuillier. Regardless...check out some before, during and after pics of the fabulous show and then some very fabulous Q&A with the gorgeous Miss Bri Stewart!

Pre show

Showtime

After show

Now for a little model talk Q&A!

RD - Is this your biggest show to date?
Bri - It has been my biggest show this year! Last year I had a show at the same place but Oscar De La Renta was there instead which was just as amazing!

RD - Who else has been really fun to walk for?
Bri - Since Nashville isn't so high fashion, there are a lot of benefit shows which are fun to walk for because they are all for a good cause!

RD - How long did you have to prep before the catwalk?
Bri - Prep time was at 1pm and the show didn't start till 7pm! The hours are the only thing that can be pretty dreadful, but it's worth it!

RD - For all our non-models out there, your sashay down the catwalk lasts how long for ONE LOOK?
Bri - The catwalk isn't all that complicated, it just takes a lot of practice then it just becomes natural.

RD - Tell me more about meeting the designer.
Bri - She was super, super cute. She was backstage the whole time and just kept telling us to 'have fun and bring a lot of energy!' She was adorable!

RD - You know I'm a country girl at heart...how about meeting Lady A?
Bri - Ahhh! Meeting Lady Antebellum was amazing. Im a huge huge country fan, so actually being back stage with them was like a dream and they were so laid back and nice!

RD - What's your fave thing about walking in a runway show?
Bri - I love all the chaos! It's so different and cluttered then anything else but I love it!

RD - Last question...what's one piece of makeup you can't live without?
Bri - To be honest, I don't know a thing about makeup. I'd have to say mascara, because it's the only thing I know how to put on...haha!

Thanks so much Bri for your time and all my readers...stop rolling your eyes at this last answer. Yes, I agree...even though she doesn't even need a smidgen of makeup...must be NICE to not have to wear any! Cheers to a successful show and one gorgeous model. Love you, Bri!

Wanting/Wishing/Wearing: Stylish Organic Pieces to Celebrate Earth Day

(Click Thumbnails to be Directed to ShopStyle for Info & to Buy!)

Happy Earth Day 2009! This is definitely going to be short and sweet as little Zola and I are heading out the door to ride bikes (earth friendly), go to the beach and enjoy an al fresco lunch at one of my favorite raw foods cafe! Yes, it's all about appreciating Mother Nature today. I just wanted to point out some of my favorite new finds that have the green-worthy stamp of approval...organic! How bright, fun and eye-catching for summer is the Gypsy Maxi Dress? Love it! I'm also lusting after Martin + Osa Watercolor Graphic Tee too.

I've done some quick ensemble styling below with some of my fave casual pieces from above. Ya know, just playin' a lil' game of 'dress me up' for what, if given the chance, I'd actually choose to wear on my outdoor adventure today. Laid back and casual, trendy and practical...plus all the pieces are organic! What more can a nature loving girl ask for? Enjoy and celebrate our gorgeous Earth!

What to Buy Now: Scalloped Pieces à la Kate Bosworth, Emma Roberts and Sienna Miller

Stars in chloe scallop shorts

It's scallop season! Just kidding...actually it might be as I have no idea when people farm/collect those yummies. Today we're focusing on another type; the more fashionable and less edible sort...so feminine and fun! Sophisticated/statement-making goodies; scalloped clothes are about to explode onto the fashion scene. Mark...my...words.

Chloé's Spring 2009 Collection was a show-stopper and one key element incorporated all the looks together; scallops! All three ladies above have been snapped sporting their Chloé looks and I love how each has personally styled their take on a daring mini-suit.

Seriously, there aren't many times when I TELL you to go invest in something...but today I'm suggesting you do just that. Vintage stores, thrift stores and even your Grandmother's closet are all great places to scour for a perfect scalloped frock.

I've provided you with some speedy-savvy-stylin' below with prices ranging from $20 to $2,500. Obviously, the later category can be used for mainly inspiration. The Carrie Valentine Gray Clutch for $99 might just make it as a sweet go-to Spring accessory for this chica...enjoy!

Received this New York and Company flyer in my inbox this morning and took a second to check out the SALE goods. I'm a girl that loves a good sale and this is a GREAT one! I just couldn't resist oogling at so many pieces and knew I had to 'share the wealth' right away!

I've already scoped out some trendy, chic and very inexpensive purchases to add to my wardrobe. I'm hoping you'll be able to do the same. So make sure to click HERE for more info on NY&C's Clearance sale...limited sizes so don't delay. I don't shop at NY&C very frequently but as we are all becoming more budget minded...a recession friendly purchase (or two) is a great way to anxiously await some fabulous goodies in the mail.

Also, take notice that SO MANY PIECES from NY&C's jewelry selection is buy one, get one 50% off. Steal, much? Plus...just so you believe me, I've styled four ensembles below that are Spring-worthy indeed. Every piece shown is under $25 and many less than $15. My fave piece...(too many to say) but I really have my eye on that Starfish Necklace for $24.95. I personally know how much time went into today's fashionably chic post...hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Stylish Snazzy Site: Neiman Marcus's April Casual Look Book with Behind-the-Scenes Pics

Behind the scenes for neiman marcus

Beachy keen looks

I opened my inbox this morning and BAM...just like that, I was swept off to Las Ventanas Al Paraiso Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. Thanks to Neiman Marcus's amazing April Look Book...I also can't sit still and want to book a white-sand beach vaca right away.

I've got Kenny Chesney's Pandora station blaring in the background and at least I'm sporting a coral sweater on this 55 degree San Francisco day. Hey, I'm not complaining...the sun is out in full force. I wanted to make sure to give you a sneak peek and some warm sunny looks to lust after...in case Mexico is your go-to destination soon.

I also love glancing at the behind-the-scenes pics; laying on chaise lounges, hair so delicately pulled back and relaxing in between takes. All intricate parts of getting the look right in a high profile photo shoot. Love it and just adore my six fave vaca looks, too (above). Click HERE for more looks from the shoot. Enjoy! PS - Make sure to use the free shipping code above if you order (NMSPR).

Article Alert: Savvy Sugar - Free Stuff on Tax Day

Free tax stuff

Today is April 15th and you know what that means...TAXES! We actually hired someone this year, though R.D. Hubby thought it made it even more confusing than previous years when he did them all. Regardless, taxes are no fun and make me feel WAY TOO grown up.

Savvy Sugar, one of my favorite sites for money management and budgeting tips had something fabulous posted today. Savvy featured 7 great freebies/deals that any recessionista should take full advantage of on TAX DAY.

Heading to the mall? Make sure to stop at Cinnabon to see if your location is passing out freebies...yum! In the mood for pizza? Order a large cheese pizza with up to three toppings from Papa John's ONLINE for a punny price of $10.40. I love it...enjoy! And yes, no worries, I'll be right back with your daily fashion fix too!

Real-life Runway: Drew Barrymore in Diagonal Striped Narcisco Rodriguez

Drew Barrymore adn Tara Gill in Same Narcisco Rodriguez Striped Stunner

As of late, Drew Barrymore is becoming quite the fashion fixture here on RD...first SUSPENDERS and now this gorgeous diagonal stunner! Not your average horizontal/vertical stripes...I was stopped in my web-surfing tracks when I saw this recent look on that she donned. I am so in love with this dress. She wore the black and white goodness while promoting her new film Grey Gardens in NYC. Her RED HOT Miu Miu pumps are the perfect complimenting accessory too. Not to mention her braided hair, red lips and very minimal accessories. So chic, Miss D.B.

Checking out the same dress on Narcisco Rodriguez's Spring 2009 Runway show, there are a few similarities in styling when Tara Gill took a saunter in the same number; a simple up 'do and minimal accessories. But I tend to opt for a splash of color when sporting black and white so I lean more towards Barrymore's overall look. But I do love me some STRAP-HAPPY heels, so Gill's sandals are still a do in my book too. Overall...Yay for Drew!  I've even added some speedy-savvy-stylin' to get your diagonal striped juices flowing. I love the MLH Boat Neck Sheath Dress for $75...such a steal. Enjoy!

Personal Peek: Crystal/Leather - Third Anniversary

Balmain fall 2009

So this week R.D. Hub and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary. We were so blessed to celebrate with close family...what a treat! The widely known tradition of giving a specific gift on each yearly anniversary dates back to the Middle Ages. Wow, right? Each anniversary has both a traditional and modern gift idea. This year our gift ideas were crystal (modern) and leather (traditional). Obviously giddy, I love both goods...supple leather products and gorgeous crystal jewelry are some of my favorite splurges.

We actually put a price cap on our gift spending but we both did such a great job splurging, surprising and just being creative for each other. Yay for three years! In addition to sharing this Personal Peek, I couldn't believe how many adorable accessories embody both crystal and leather. I just had to share. I've provided some inspirational pictures of the Balmain Fall 2009 Collection (tons of crystal and leather - love it) and some speedy-savvy-stylin' below too. Enjoy and maybe add a leather crystal piece to your wardrobe soon!

So...have you ever wanted to get your lil' grubby paws on a celebrity's personal wardrobe? Me too. Well today is the day to start bidding on some awesome pieces from Gwyneth Paltrow's personal essentials. She did a lil' spring cleaning (found that out via her GOOP Newsletter - sign up HERE) and is putting some precious pieces (below) up for bid on eBay.

Here's MORE of what Paltrow has to say about each piece below and why she thinks it'll be a great addition to any Spring/Summer wardrobe. All funds raised will go to the Robin Hood Foundation so it's for a good cause. I love the ethnic print dress by Isabel Marant and the Jumpsuit by Joe Tees. A-list Accessory: Suspenders

Celebs in suspenders

(Click Thumbnails to be Directed to ShopStyle for Info & to Buy!)

Oh my goodness, I'm all over this. I've recently noticed a noteworthy resurgence in suspendered looks popping up on my fashion radar. Definitely something worth sharing and so easy to emulate. Take a glance as the starlet inspirations above. My fave look has to either be Agyness Deyn or Beyonce. Their red take on the classic accessory is so chic and fun. Also, as R.D. Hubby took lil' Zola for a walk last night, I was glued to the TV watching The Hills marathon and Lauren Conrad wore an adorable suspender ensemble in last season's last episode, too. She looked so stylish as well!

Yes, I'm on the hunt for the perfect pair OR even a pair of worn in jeans with the suspenders as an added bonus. Two for one, cha-ching! I'm obviously lusting for the Current Elliot version below (sidenote - Have you ever tried on these jeans? Can I say one of the most comfortable cuts and fabrics ever!) But I'd also like something a bit more budget friendly to make sure the suspendered goodies get some serious rotation before splurging.

For my first buy I might go for the Silence & Noise Sateen High-Waisted stunner for $39.99 or the Forever 21 Janice Suspender Trouser for $27.80 (above in my speedy-savvy-stylin'). Both are relatively inexpensive and will give me the chance to play with this style before dropping the big bucks. Enjoy and get yourself fashionably suspended, pronto!

Wanting/Wishing/Wearing: Pretty Pastels

Pastels on the fall 2009 runway

Pretty Pastel Pieces Under $100:
(Click Thumbnails to be Directed to ShopStyle for Info & to Buy!)

Seriously, I'm on the hunt for some stellar pastel goodies. Easter is right around the corner and the decor at every store is overflowing in light shades so I thought this post was perfect timing. Maybe you glanced at the four inspirational looks above and assumed Spring 2009? Wrong. These looks are straight from the Fall 2009 runway shows...pastels are timeless and seasonless. Paired with black and grey in the Fall/Winter, they add a fresh touch of feminine spirit. Obviously the colors are perfect for ladylike fun all Spring/Summer long, too.

I've also added some speedy-savvy-stylin' above. All pieces are under $100 and supremely adorable. I just love the Yochi Pastel Tiered Stone Necklace...I want it NOW! I'd pair it with a white tank, the floral Urban Renewal Remnant Pencil Skirt from Urban Outfitters and some nude heels for a light and airy look. I'm keeping it short and sweet today...racing out the door for some Easter basket goodie shopping and might just make a short stop at our Urban to graze through their pastel picks. Enjoy!

This just makes me giddy to get outside in the gorgeous sunshine...so a short but sweet post it will be! Jean shorts...definitely a key piece for Spring/Summer fun. Above, a killer collage of ten stunning starlets correctly show us how to style/add a bit of personality to the essential gam exposing piece. We've mentioned cutoff jeans before HERE at Alexander Wang (which I actually tried on but the fit wasn't right for my shape). Having been a devout jean short wearer since our single digit years, they are classic, sexy and very easy to create on your own!

I passed out two Gold Stars (that would be a FIRST for R.D. as I usually only deem one look the overall winner) today; Beyonce and Nicole Richie. Here in SF the temps are still rather chilly so I love how Beyonce paired her short cutoffs with an entire Winter ensemble. Also, take note...those legs look over the top luscious and party perfect with a little help from some nude pantyhose. Note to self - TRY!

Rounding out the Gold Star winners is none other than hippie/boho chic goddess, Miss Nicole Richie. There...is...nothing that I don't love about this look. Cali cool and warm-weather stylish perfection, Richie is such a 'do' for those ladies in hotter climates. Bravo to all the above women! Note to readers: take some time to show off those beach-ready legs in an adorable new pair of short jean shorts. Enjoy!
