London Fashion Week: Erdem - Spring 2009 - Watercolor Wonders

Watercolor Wonders at Erdem - Spring 2009

Erdem Moralioglu stated backstage, "I've got all these images of seventies theater productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream...I just wanted something soft and hyper-romantic, easy but a bit surreal at the same time." And wow...did he ever deliver! Erdem's Spring Collection is one of my favorite, so far.

Pretty, lady-like, whimsical and delicate are words I'd use to describe the complete Collection. Although it was the breathtaking watercolor prints that really caught my eye. Featured above, these gorgeous prints are exactly what I'd want to galavant around in, all Spring/Summer long. Maybe watercolor will be the new 'it' print, taking the place of IKAT and ART INSPIRED pieces from last season! I guess we'll just have to wait and see...but until then, enjoy!

London Fashion Week: Paul Smith Women - Spring 2009 - Scarf Belts

Scarf belts at paul smith women - spring 2009

Yippee, an item that can easily move from your Fall/Winter wardrobe and transition into Spring...just worn in a fresh new way! Many of you know my mega love for SCARVES. I probably own nearly 30 (ridiculous, I know). A BUFFALO PLAID scarf of mine is worn on a weekly basis and very similar to those seen around the waists of numerous models on Paul Smith's runway show, above.

How excited am I to use my scarf as another accessory and not just to merely keep my neck warm. I'm on the look-out for a grey striped scarf, so it might make a killer belt option too. Kudos to Paul Smith for stepping outside the box...but we have to hand it to Gucci's Fall 2008 Collection (highlighted HERE) as this boho and laid-back feel was seen there, first! Enjoy!

London Fashion Week: Bold and Wearable - Printed Dresses for Fall (and Summer)

Printed_dresses_on_the_fall_london_

Prints ran the gamut at London's Fall Fashion Week this year. Plaids, florals, neons, brush strokes and mis-matched stripes are just to name a few. Featured above, numerous designers showed garments that fall into these categories. Glancing upper left and clockwise; Topshop Unique, Eley Kishimoto, House of Holland, Allegra Hicks, Sinha-Stanic, Paul Smith Women, Eley Kishimoto and Aquascutum.

Honestly, your array of choices for this here, trend, is truly endless...but one thing is certain, you MUST get yourself a fun printed frock before Fall arrives.

I've provided you with a tiny bit of speedy-savvy-stylin' below. All frocks are UNDER $50 (happy, happy Friday) and can transition well from your Summer wardrobe on into Fall. Yes, we're already talking 'Fall pieces' because I want you to be the 'first to know!' Enjoy!

London and Milan Fashion Week: Pretty in Pink

Pink_looks_from_the_fall_runway

(Designers featured above, upper left and clockwise; Emilio Pucci, Luisa Beccaria, Gucci, Eley Kishimoto, Giles, Sinha Stanic, Armand Basi, Marni)

Awwwww...though you make think today's post is strictly fashion...it's actually commemorating a wonderful celebration of something going on in RunwayDaily's personal life. What could it be? My sister is 5 1/2 months pregnant and just yesterday she found out that it's an itty bitty lady-love in there! Awwwww! So without further ado...this entire post is completely dedicated to my gorgeous sister, who was always the 'one in pink' and her lil' peanut that is healthily growing inside of her! Already the doting aunt? You bet!

Pink was all over the Fall Runways in London and Milan. Coming in numerous shades and forms...pink pieces weren't just overtly feminine, as you might think...though I've selected my fave looks to show you, above, and they are all quite feminine! The look from Emilio Pucci (COLORED TIGHTS) in the upper left just rocks my world and the MAXI DRESS at Gucci is so summer-girl chic!

Pink is an easy color to wear all summer long...light pink, close to white, similar to the looks featured at Luisa Beccaria and Marni above, will keep the sun from burning down your back. The lighter the shade = the cooler your temp will stay. I will just have to say that when I was a young girl, I was SUCH a tomb boy. I would tuck all my dresses into my shorts underneath (sneaky me), promptly upon arriving at school. My sister, on the other hand, was always such the 'little lady' and though I detested the pink that Mom put all over her...a little bit of me always wondered, 'What would it be like to don pink and not blue?'

As an adult now, I just adore pink and probably wear it more than RunwayDaily Sis does. But one thing is definitely certain...though pink may not be top of her list...she better get used to it! Having an itty-bitty vah-jay-jay in the oven means pink overload, for YEARS to come!!! But for you, my wonderful reader, enjoy and sport your pink pride all Summer long, as it WILL carry over nicely into the Fall. Here's some speedy-savvy-stylin' for you, below...all under $150 and just to wet your lil' pink palette!

How to Wear It: The Long Vest - Featured at New York, London and Milan Fashion Week

The_long_vest_is_extra_long_and_flo

I just can't get enough of this hot new trend! I do deem it one of the bigger trends that will take notice this Fall. But why wait till then, eh? Get on it now! I've really done my research this go-round, lady loves. And plan to have you RACING away from this here, post, just to go get yourself THE LONG VEST of your dreams!

Featured above, I've collaged three looks from Jeremy Laing, Alexander Wang and House of Holland. All three are sporting a long vest with trousers. Some WIDE-LEG, others skinny as can be. I love that the vests are extra long, loose and flowing. Easy to emulate as two of the three vested looks are layered over a t-shirt. There's some speedy-savvy-stylin' for you, way below and I want you to take notice of the BDG Boyfriend Sweater Vest which would be a perfect option for perfecting the trouser/long vest combo!

The_long_vest_over_dresses_and_skir

Now just above, we have three other, more highly sophisticated versions of the long vested look. Seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Dolce & Gabbana and Marni, the vests were paired with longer dresses and skirts. They were then layered over turtlenecks or collared shirts and all tied up with a killer leather belt! Please tell me you immediately took notice of the DOUBLE-WRAPPED BELT at 3.1? I have you trained, very well, my love! Yes, LADY-LIKE indeed...pair any sweater vest over a FULL SKIRT and TURTLENECK (or tank in the summer) and you're an easy target to be called, "One chic and preppy, princess!" Which speedy-savvy-stylin' vest catches my eye for this category? I'd have to say the Style&Co. Deep V-neck version and at $14.95, what a steal!

The_long_vest_over_a_mini_dress_and

Last, but not least, we have three more versions from the Eley Kishimoto, Lacoste and Dsquared² Runways that make the Long Vest beyond versatile. It's the piece that catapults even plain-jane outfits into stellar and stylish ensembles. Notice the pairing of a mini-dress and longer vest...love that at Eley Kishimoto. How about the "boy meets girl" version at Lacoste...do you love? If not, just remove the tie and pair the entire look with some spring-worthy STRAP-HAPPY PLATFORMS and you're all sex and sophistication at once!

So there you have it, my amazing fashionistas! So simple to emulate and very easy to carry over from spring to summer to fall. I can guarantee you that you won't be the first lady-love you know to just wear a vest...but you might be the first to make it extra, extra LONG! Enjoy!

London Fashion Week: Oversized and Exaggerated Ensembles Garner BIG Attention and Will Ferrell Shows His Support

Oversized_and_exaggerated_pieces_at

So, a few days ago we mentioned that oversized coats made a massive showing on the runway at New York Fashion Week (Click HERE for the Story). We giggled and made fun of the ridiculousness of the entire look. Well, unfortunately, London Fashion Week was chock-full of the same exaggerated and oversized pieces. Oh no, right?

In my little mind, there is absolutely nothing about this look that is feminine, attractive or even worthy of praise. I'm not really sure what all the designers are thinking, on this one! One thing's true, it will be very easy to emulate...just borrow your Dad's, Boyfriend's, Husband's or guy friend's jackets and over-coats and voila...you're runway ready!

Please do check out the pic, below, of Will Ferrell. He recently showed up at the premiere of his new movie, Semi-Pro, wearing an oversized suit that he claims he borrowed from, none other than, Shaq! Always the funny man, Ferrell doesn't seem to be the sort of man to stay on top of runway fashion so I'm definitely chalking this one up to coincidence. Even Ferrell makes the look, whole-heartedly, laughable! Enjoy!

London Fashion Week: The 80's Called and They Want Their Onesie Back

80s_style_onesies_on_the_london_run

Sorry...but...there...is...nothing...flattering...about...a...leotard...ONESIE! Seriously, please do not come back as a serious/stylish trend this season, dear onesie! I'm ALL for using you as a layering piece...but NOT as the entire ensemble as seen above, at Louise Goldin. Oh wait, but maybe if I just add some little tykes football pads (left pic from Louise Goldin) it will make everything better. W-R-O-N-G!

House of Holland is the only, wee-bit acceptable version in this collage of looks, but that's merely because the jacket and lace-up boots just rock and the pattern detracts from the point that it's an 'exposed' onesie, indeed. Disclaimer on this: Do not leave the house...try this only at home!

Wanting/Wishing/Wearing: Latex/Pleather Leggings at London Fashion Week and Spotted on Rihanna and Nicky Hilton

Latex_pleather_black_pants_on_the_f

Christopher Kane and Topshop Unique both showed Collections complete with RunwayDaily's item du jour; pleather/leather leggings! Seriously, they garner some serious attention when I sport them...continual questions, "Where did you get those? They are so hot!" As a result, they've had some serious wardrobe rotation, as of recent!

Are you wondering what I pair them with? Platform black heels, scoop neck black bubble hem dress and a tight black vest. I've also worn them with a big camel-colored sweater and booties. One thing's a must when sporting such a bad-girl look...hold yourself with confidence, wear them with pride and seriously strut your stuff. You'll look irresistibly COOL in these skin-tight goodies, just like the two gorgeous gals below! Go Rihanna and Nicky Hilton...work those pleather gams!

London Fashion Week: Printed, Patterned and Painted Tights Make for Stylish Runway Gams

(Designers featured above, upper left and clockwise; Paul Smith Women, Duro Olowu, Jaeger London, Louise Goldin, Paul Smith Women, Paul Smith Women, Eley Kishimoto, Paul Smith Women, Eley Kishimoto, Louise Goldin)

These tights are just so much FUN! Seriously, so many of them sauntered down the London Runways during Fall Fashion Week. I know many of the ensembles are a bit daring and hodge-podge...but imagine some killer printed tights with a monochrome ensemble? H-O-T! For instance, imagine this...a show-stopping, mini LBD and the MUSTARD colored snake-skin tights, featured above, at Jaeger London. Now that would be one SMOKIN' look for a night out on the town.

I'm a tights gal for sure. In my drawer I boast some purple, cerulean blue, light grey, black with itty bitty white dots and an array of fun fishnets...but PRINTED/PATTERNED tights have not found their way in RD's wardrobe, yet. Oh, I can assure you...they will! I'm aboslutely eating this look up and can't wait to sport a pair of floral printed goodies this Spring/Summer and then maybe a pair of earth-toned paisley's for Fall! Enjoy!

London Fashion Week: Cross Your Heart with a Side Slung Bag

Side_slung_bags_on_the_fall_londo_2

Love these bags! All over the Runways at London Fashion Week were side-slung bags. Other synonyms for these cross-hearted goodies; messenger, sling, saddle or cross-body bag! Whatever we want to deem them...one thing's for sure, they are CHIC!

Take a peek at the above collage and see the array of bag styles. Small and petite at House of Holland, a flat messenger version at Jaeger London and skinny straps at Eley Kishimoto and Paul Smith Women. I would actually bet some serious moolah that you have a big, right now, in the depths of your closet that can fit this side-sling mold perfectly! Or...do you have a bag with removable straps? Go to your local guitar shop, but a guitar strap then VOILA...hook it ON and cross your heart!

Side_slung_bags_on_the_fall_londo_3

A few more looks from London Fashion Week to make sure, this new purse-sporting style, resonates with you! I do have to say, I'd steer clear of the furry versions, similar to the puff-ball at House of Holland (directly above) as it lends a feeling of raiding your 7 year old sister's closet! NOT cool!

Just keep an eye out for a luxurious leather messenger, a lady-like flat bag with a long strap or even a glittery nighttime clutch with removable strap can fulfill the need. I've provided some speedy-savvy-stylin' for you below. Just click on the thumbnail and you'll be directed RIGHT TO find out more about the bag and to maybe even buy! My top two from this grouping has got to be the Market Bag By Jaye Hersh or the Grand Canyon Saddlebag, with it's two 'must have' large front pockets! Love this look...this Spring and on into Fall...allow your bags to ride side-saddle!

Fashion Week Frenzy: Runway Stripes to Stars-"in"-Stripes

Fashion Week Frenzy - a trend reappearing in New York, London, Milan and Paris runway shows.

The newest addition to our frenzied report are all pieces stupendously...STRIPED! The spring runways were alive with frocks covered or accented with stripes. Black/white, spring pastels, red/white, horizontal, vertical, sideways...there was no method to each designer's madness when it came to this frenzy. You honestly can't go wrong, thankfully, due to so many options. Horizontal stripes are hard to pull off BUT I've nicely included some great pics of celebs appearing out and about sporting their stripes to inspire you. They can look nautical, daring, sophisticated or race-car drivin' COOL! Pair a striped oxford with jeans and you're school-girl sweet. Opt for striking black and white pieces, a la Beckham and Moss, letting your inner mod SHINE! One thing's for sure, stripes have been around for centuries but are popping up everywhere and on everyone, as of recent!

Some speedy-savvy-stylin' for you, below, to jump start that engine and get stripin'! How Holiday-worthy is the Marc by Marc Jacobs pastel bibbed number ON SALE? Ooh lah lah...I might just have to scoop that one up for myself!

Fashion Week Frenzy: Piped Blazers

Fashion Week Frenzy - a trend reappearing in New York, London, Milan and Paris runway shows.

The newest addition to our frenzy is the very versatile piped blazer. You could even pair it with our previous fashion frenzy, oxford shoes. We saw piped blazers first on the Fall 2007 Balenciaga runway...Nicolas Ghesquière and his creative genius obviously started a trend that other designers drew inspiration from. Check out Balenciaga's killer piped blazers below. You gotta love his pairing of sandals and socks as discussed in a previous post. For Spring 2008, numerous designers added a piped blazer, or two, to their Collections. I'm loving L.A.M.B.'s colorful rendition, upper right of bottom pic. That black and white piped blazer paired with bright colors is just the key item that I'm after to go from Fall to Spring...so versatile. So, keep your eyes peeled for a killer piped blazer...wear it all Fall and Winter, then pair it with a flowing sun-dress as the Spring approaches. One thing's for sure...piped blazers are a great addition to any wardrobe and transcend all seasons if done right! I'm sure I'll have some speedy-savvy-stylin' for you later!

Fashion Week Frenzy: Enlist in the NAVY

Fashion Week Frenzy - a trend reappearing in New York, London, Milan and Paris runway shows.

I love NAVY! It is a color that is sooo under-rated and under-utilized, but has such WOW factor, pizzazz and sex-appeal! It looks sophisticated and simple yet stands out gracefully in a sea of "boring" LBD's (Little Black Dresses...don't make me remind you again). It entices a regal spirit and eludes to riches, unknown. Navy just does it for me, every...single...freakin...time! I have only a few strong pieces in my wardrobe that are navy, but I tell you what, when I DO wear them, this always happens; my eye color pops, I feel strong but also feminine all at once and my posture seems so perfect (like I've truly enlisted). So many navy frocks were seen on the Spring 2008 Runways so I saved you the time of looking through multiple pics and just chose my fave four that EACH incorporate other trends I've recently mentioned to you. Left to right; an amazing trapeze dress with a DAZZLING neckline at La Perla, a SWEATER dress and skinnies combo at Nina Ricci, a ONE-ARMED wonder at Aquascutum and lovely layers paired with a killer STATEMENT necklace at Tuleh.

Some PYT (Pretty Young Things) have also been spotted all over Hollywood and have already enlisted as well. Jersey with Loubs on Mandy Moore, CRISS-CROSS neckline and yes, my LOUBS again on Gwen Stefani, polka-dot parade on Emily Deschanel and lastly a gorgeous sateen number of Marisa Tomei.

It's Friday and I'm feeling awfully sweet, so I've already included some speedy-NAVY-stylin' for ya way below! Ladies, seriously, sport some NAVY in the next few weeks...and you'll also be ready to enlist on a daily basis!

Fashion Week Frenzy: Opulent Ombre

Fashion Week Frenzy - a trend reappearing in New York, London, Milan and Paris runway shows.

Ombre - a technique of dyeing from light to dark...it's been around for a long time and is practically tie-dye's closest cousin! Numerous runways were ALIVE with ombre fabrics for spring. They have such a FUN and care-free feel to them, don't they? Diane Von Furstenberg and Matthew Williamson showed numerous ombre frocks and this gorgeous starlet was recently seen gallavanting around town in one! Ombre looks more high-fashion than tie-dye and is a much, much more rigorous process whose total cost depends on labour, desired colour, number of transitions and general difficulty of the job. Hence why we ALWAYS used to tie-dye our shirts at summer camp and never ombre them! I've included some magnificent savvy-ombre-stylin' for you below! The Prada bag is just lust-worthy and appears in all their newest ad campaigns but I'm also really diggin' the racerback tank from Urban Outfitters! Again, ombre frocks gallavanted down the runways in New York, London, Milan and Paris...what more reason do you need to invest in a piece, pronto? Happy ombre hunting!

New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week: Target Practice? Hit the Bullseye!

Designers in New York, London, Milan and Paris must have been hunting recently and gotten some obvious creative inspiration! Each city had at least ONE designer that showcased pieces with, for lack of a better term, a bullseye visually apparent on the front of a frock, or two. Some looks are just whacky, click the jump to see those...while others are a really great compliment and super fun (below). Not sure how I feel about this look, in general for everyday, as I surely don't know ANY woman who wants to appear more 'round'...but if you glued a plastic arrow on the front of L.A.M.B.'s version (below, upper right) you'd have yourself one heck of a saucy Halloween costume...sexy over-the-knee SOCKS, def included!!

Fashion Week Frenzy: Walk on Oxford Street

Fashion Week Frenzy - a trend reappearing in New York, London, Milan and Paris runway shows.

We at Runway Daily want to make sure that you are the FIRST to know what's about to be IN and HOT! Let me just point out that all four cities have taken a "Walk on Oxford Street," per say. Though you might be saying, "What? That street's in London!" Right-o you are, but what we're talking about this go-round is not one of my FAVE shopping streets, but men's OXFORD SHOES! Just look at them all...not sky-high-heeled, but low/no heeled. Neon hued, classic black, two-toned preppy brown, nude and nice ... you can't GO WRONG on this one. Pair them with an ultra feminine ensemble or just stick to the menswear fad and it'll be a safe bet! I can tell you this, I have my eye out for a great pair to wear with my skinny jeans, sweater dresses or my bubble hems. Get on it! Check back later and you KNOW I'll award you with some savvy-oxford-stylin...PLUS, I saw one model-of-the-moment already workin' the oxford-trend behind the scenes!

New York and London Fashion Week: Take It Off

Well...take it off, both shoulders, that is! Recent Fashion Week Runway Shows in New York and London have produced some serious sass for clavicle and shoulder baring looks. Models careened down, perfectly poised, with a polished presentation...and for me, there's just something sophisticated and feminine about these peeping shoulders. It's seductive in a way that exudes sex and simplicity (fashion tip: nearly ALL off-the-shoulder looks should be worn sans necklace). Plus, in the last few days, I've already spotted many starlets who have jumped on the "TEAM - Take It Off" bandwagon...make sure to check those out below, with the trend obviously leaning towards the color RED, channeling Derek Lam's gorgeous frock below! Get your shopping shoes on as I've included some amazing off-the-shoulder finds...click to see the bigger picture for each!
