Movie Mode: Zooey Deschanel's Ladylike Appeal in 500 Day of Summer

Spy the Look:

500 days of summer - the movie

We recently saw the movie 500 Days of Summer and absolutely loved it. Zooey Deschanel's wardrobe was memorably superb. All the ladylike full skirts and sweater sets, paired with sweet camis and loafers. Not to mention, we actually told RWD Hubby how much we also adored Joseph Gordon-Levitt's look and he actually wore a sweater vest/tie combo the very next day - cha ching!

We've hand picked some great pieces below for you to breeze through to get the same Deschanel-esque look. Also, if you haven't seen this movie yet, it comes highly recommended with the RWD stamp of approval!

Movie Mode: Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love

Eat Pray Love - Stills of Julia Roberts

Last night we actually got to see Eat, Pray, Love and it...ROCKED!!! I won the tickets to the sneak peek showing here in Austin and we made it into the theater, just in the nick of time. The cinematography, imagery, story and characters were all so fascinating and amazing. We both absolutely loved the movie and I already told the hubby, "We're totally buying that when it comes out!" Two thumbs up...way up! Reminded me of the years I spent traveling and 'finding' myself...that was so good for my soul, indeed. Ok, enough of the movie review, let's talk fashion!

Julia Roberts wardrobe was laid back, casual, frumpy (at times, but she was totally in character) and completely corporate too! She ran the gamut as far as different styles but I think I adored her ladylike approach to being fashionable in both Italy and Bali the best. I've hand picked some awesome items below, all under $100, that are the perfect pieces to spruce up any travel wardrobe. RWD Hubby and I have a few upcoming trips and we're already on the search for some great pieces so this can jumpstart by online shopping craze. Enjoy and go see the movie, for sure! Be sure to tell us what you think of it, too!

PS - Javier Bardem...*swoon!* And, maybe you want to know our personal Eat, Pray, Love place in Austin, TX. We covered them earlier today over on our sister site, CasaCullen.

Movie Mode: Fashion Inspired by Cinema - Kelly McGillis in Top Gun

Stills from the movie top gun

I adore the movie Top Gun. Seriously, even if you're not a Tom Cruise fan, you can't argue that he is pretty amazing in this movie and Kelly McGillis rocks too. Today we're highlighting Kelly's wardrobe in this classic and very sexy movie. Her wardrobe consisted mainly of black and white pieces. Donning white T's and button-downs never looked so chic. Aviators, a silver watch and her military cap round out her accessories and her leather bomber is drool worthy.

Much different than our last Movie Mode post on Michael Jackson's This Is It wardrobe HERE, we're showcasing a subdued palette of wearable, everyday pieces for everyone. Many of these pieces are gender neutral and might even make you think about stealing a piece from your boyfriend/hubby's closet too. Go for it! Enjoy and always be inspired by cinema, but maybe not take it as far as SJP's hairpiece in SATC The Movie HERE.

Michael Jackson's Personal Style in This Is It

We had a rather large Redbox movie watching weekend. We packed in five...count that, f-i-v-e movies over this past weekend. I wasn't feeling exceptionally great so it was a great excuse to hunker down and catch up on some viewing. One of our first choice picks was the Michael Jackson world fave, This Is It.

RWD hubby and I can totally remember where we were when so many of MJ songs were huge. I can actually tell you that my sister's first cassette tape was his Thriller album and just like the Goonies movie...we listened to it so much that one day it just went kaput. We used to dance around and sing our little hearts out while cleaning our room when we were younger. And I'm not kidding you, RWD hubby actually knows most of the dance moves and does them with complete pride. One word - hilarious!

So, upon renting the movie, I sort of already knew what to expect and was highly anticipating all the shots with the backup dancers. Scenes of them practicing so hard for this amazing concert tour that never happened. Just knowing this was a huge break for each of them sort of broke my heart since it never came to fruition. The dancing did not let us down and was spectacularly awesome.

I also loved witnessing how professional and kind-hearted Jackson was. He constantly told the cast and crew, 'God bless you' which I thought was very touching and wonderful to hear. He was also hyper involved in the entire process and gave his input willingly but not in an overly-assertive, asinine way. Yep, newfound respect for this amazing performer on both our parts.

And naturally, you know I was digging all the attire featured. MJ had some serious personal style that just oozed creativity and imagination. I've gotten together some incredible pieces that remind me so much of his style choices in this film. Sequins, blazer, fedoras and loafers were his choice uniform...except for one scene where some Ed Hardy sweatpants made an appearance. I shuddered but of course, MJ made them look laid back and rather cool. Go figure?

Perfect MJ inspired pieces below for under $100. I love the Members Only gold shiny leggings for an amazing $19 on sale. And how about that Aqua Satin Boyfriend Blazer? So chic! Menswear inspired looks that are feminine, fun and flattering is what I'm gathering from his influence.

One thing is definitely certain, Jackson's style is something to be emulated and watched forever. I love that it was practically androgynous and superseded race/gender. A talented man lost...a film worth renting. Enjoy!

Movie Mode: Fashion Inspired by Cinema - Avatar

Avatar - still images from the movie

New category alert, woo-woo! RWD Fam enjoys their movies so much that I've decided to devote an entire category to inspirational fashion choices from cinematic masterpieces...or just your everyday great chick flick. Further more, I've delved into this type of fashion posting before(HERE) but decided it's time to add some more movie lovin' to the site.

Have you seen Avatar yet? Oh my gosh...oh my gosh! It rocks...we really, really loved it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so we know in sharing ours, there may be many readers that disagree. The colors in Avatar were stupendous, the special affects were awe inducing and the character plots had me tearing up. I won't give too much away but I wanted to share some great fashion accessories that I feel are inspired by the beauty of this movie. For those of you that have seen it, I think you'll agree on these choices for sure. I adore the Mango Jessica ring and I'd even feel like I'm donning my own little chunk of unobtainable (I hope that's what it was called.) Enjoy!
