RWD and tiny Zola Belle are in Austin, TX for the week visiting dear friends. Shopping, laughing, yummy dinners and lazy days in the sun are on the agenda. These are some of my favorite people from college...and two of the most creative individuals I know. Recently, the married duo and their yorkie (Hollis) took a trip to central Texas and stumbled upon this random 'exhibit' in Marfa, TX.

Though your eyes may be playing tricks on you, this is not just a stand-alone Prada store, oh no...it's an exhibit of the 2005 Prada Collection, installed as a permanent sculpture on a desolate strip of highway in West Texas and aptly named Prada Marfa (more on the exhibit HERE)

The picture above was captured by amazing photographer James H. Evans (check out more of his pics HERE) but I'll tell you what...the hubby half of my creative Austin duo captured a shot that's a mirror image of the above. Golf claps for him as his image is also breathtaking and truly captures the perfect sunny Texas sky.

Naturally, some speedy-savvy-stylin' to go along with this great image which includes two Prada pieces; aviators and bracelet. I love the sky blue shorts from Fred Flare and the sexy SHEER Marc Jacobs tank in the perfect shade of summer yellow. GLADIATORS round out the look along with a large square Ba&sh bag for all that Austin shopping. Enjoy!

PS - Gossip Girl fan? It's worth noting that Prada Marfa has recently come back into cultural consciousness since there's a "Prada Marfa" sign up in the Van der Woodsen household on Gossip Girl.

Outfit Inspiration: Fashionable Pieces for a Summer BBQ Under $25 à la Nicole Richie's Laid-Back Style

Nicole richie's summer style - maxi skirt, cut offs and prints

Nicole Richie is one fashionable lady I never tire of. Her style is always, well...her style. She's my automatic go-to for laid-back, boho-chic inspiration. Even though it's overcast, cloudy and fifty degrees here in San Francisco, I know many a reader is heading out to a Memorial Day Picnic so I wanted to give you some pointers/inspiration on what to don.

I put together two adorable ensembles below taking cues from Nicole Richie's looks above. First up, sweet CUTOFFS with a PAISLEY peasant top...and then a long maxi skirt with an everyday tank. Both looks are worn with awesome GLADIATOR SANDALS and shared accessories. I also adore the beaded hair band for $3.99 and the Exquisite Medallion Necklace for $11.80. Oh yeah, every single piece is under $25! That's right...you're welcome!

Seriously, so many pieces I want to scoop up now. Hmmm...maybe we'll spend today at the mall shopping the sales instead of our previously planned park picnic since it's so cold. Enjoy and please remember to take a moment and reflect upon what today is all about...we are so blessed to have our freedom.

Outfit Inspiration: Head in the Clouds - Stella McCartney's Capsule Collection for Net-a-Porter

RWD's Fave Pieces from the Stella McCartney Capsule Collection for Net-a-Porter:

Stella McCartney for Net-a-Porter
(Click Thumbnails to be Directed to Polyvore for Info & to Buy!)

Stella McCartney is just pure fashion genius in my eyes. She always just...'gets it right!' Her new capsule collection for Net-a-Porter is whimsical and lady-like. I love it. I'm inspired to possibly add a piece to my summer wardrobe rotation, but they ring in at a hefty price...the least expensive item being the Cloud Print Shopper for $185.

But, as you can see, it made one of my top fave pieces from the Collection, highlighted in the collage below. Well if you can't get your recessionista grubs on some Stella, fret not. I've provided some speedy-savvy-stylin' below to get your 'head in the clouds' and donning some stylish cloud-like goods, pronto! Enjoy!

PS - Make sure to check out Stella's Net-a-Porter Video HERE. She inspires...that's for SURE!

Outfit Inspiration: Beach Day and Date Night Ensembles à la Layered Mountain Sunset by Chris Kayler

Day at the Beach and Into the Night
(Click for More Info and Where to BUY!)

My love for a good sunset is quite near the level of obsession. I've loved them forever and growing up on the east coast of Florida had me only enjoying a rising sun over the ocean on a few occasions. So, you know it...the last year living in San Francisco has me enjoying the Pacific setting sun on a weekly basis. I stumbled upon CHRIS KAYLER'S PHOTOGRAPHY BLOG and immediately fell in love with this image captured in Shenandoah National Park.

No, it's no beach sunset...but it's beyond captivating. Using these colors as a palette guide, I've put together two great ensembles. It's been unusually warm (yes, I'm beyond thankful) so I've actually enjoyed getting a bit of a tan at the beach. And doesn't that tunic look just like the Gucci Fall 2008 Paisley? Love it! The second ensemble inspires me to wear brighter colors in the new year! Enjoy!

Outfit Inspiration: Thanksgiving Day Ensembles à la Fall Foliage by Allen Turk

Fall foliage

(Click for More Info and Where to BUY!)

Thanksgiving is such a special Holiday in my family. Every year, for over 22 years, the entire family would go up (from Florida) to North Carolina and stay in our mountain cabins,  having such a fun-filled week. Love, laughter, memories and 18 other cousins...some of my fondest memories are from Turkey Week.

Now that we've all grown older, North Carolina is only every other year. This year, being an off year, I've found myself in Portland, OR having turkey with my sister, her hubby, hubby's father and their gorgeous little girl Minnie (yes, of course, RD Hub and sweet puppy Zola, too). A small and relaxing 'off-year' for sure. Next year will be the big sha-bang in the Carolina Mountains but there's just something about this time of year that makes me very thankful for my entire family and dearest friends...and all my amazing readers!

I've put together an outfit inspiration post for you, today. Looks that include trendy and fun pieces and incorporate all my favorite fall hues. Thanksgiving is such a wonderful day to tells those nearest to you how thankful you are for them. It's a wonderful day to just delight in the changing leaves, falling leaves or lack of leaves...whatever it may be. Whatever you have in store today, enjoy it and be thankful...I am for you! Oh, and ps - If you just adore this photograph that I garnered my outfit inspiration from, you can purchase it HERE!

Outfit Inspiration: Day to Night Ensembles à la Fine Art by Max's 'Bright Sky'

Bright sky

(Click for More Info and Where to BUY!)

So summer is winding down and you should all be uber tan, except for me and the lack of San Francisco sun and our Southern Hemisphere readers who are enjoying their winter months. Whenever I am tan, one of my favorite colors to wear is bright orange. It accentuates a glowing hue and makes the apples of my cheeks just a wee bit brighter. So, glancing through Fine Art by Max's website, I couldn't help but he drawn to his Bright Sky painting...and for $50 it's quite the steal.

Strong yellow, orange, purple and green tones jump out immediately. Following Bright Sky's color palette, I've given you the perfect example of how to make one T-shirt dress work for day and night time looks, above. The Vanessa Bruno layered silk dress is a great way to incorporate your summer-wear into Fall.

The addition of a low-slung brown leather belt provides a hippy/bohemian feel and remember, dear readers, always add a pop of color - this time with some COLORFUL TIGHTS. Metallic heels top off the nighttime ensemble, a prime wardrobe for a girl's night out. I also want you to make a statement with your lips, as dark red lips were one of the hottest trends in makeup on all the Fall Runways...so paint the town AND your lips a bold and statement-making, red! Enjoy!

Outfit Inspiration: Day to Night Ensembles à la Jackson Pollock's Lavender Mist

Jackson pollock lavender mist

(Click for More Info and Where to BUY!)

I just love art. That's why this category comes with such ease for me. I find inspiration from many different things, when it comes to 'what I wear,' on a daily basis. But finding inspiration from great works of art is just purely...F-U-N! Today's artist, Jackson Pollock, was a major force in the abstract expressionist movement. His works are truly amazing and his style is one of the most saught after/copied in the world.

Today I chose his Lavender Mist painting to inspire two ensembles...one day and one nighttime look! So, without further ado...let's examine what I've laid out as casual cool and nighttime chic. For daytime, I've paired a painted ROLLING STONES Tunic with light/stone-washed long jean shorts. Add a POP OF COLOR in a bright pink bag and uber comfy lace-up canvas flats and you are ready to run errands all day long. Can't forget those big shades, black onyx bracelets and watch-charm necklace...so you won't be late for your fun soiree later.

And now you're off to a great night out. Following the same color palette as Pollock, I chose a muted black/white printed top and skinny black jeans...then added statement accessories to kick the look up a notch. READING GLASSES and RAINBOW/OMBRE earrings make me smile. The Tolani Honeycomb Scarf has been spotted around the neck of many a starlet and works magic with this ensemble. An oversized men's watch is that new 'timeless' accessory that's oh so HOT right now. A subdued yellow bag and killer STRAP-HAPPY blue kick round out the look. Notice that both the daytime and nighttime looks can be effortlessly complimented by the addition of the LONG BLACK VEST, too! Enjoy!

Outfit Inspiration: Black and White Weekend Attire à la Ansel Adams

Ansel adams

(Click for More Info and Where to BUY!)

Ansel Adams has to be one of my all time favorite photographers. I studied photography in High School and College (not as my major, but nearly a minor). I have some serious appreciation for the massive camera this man drug along with him on every shoot. And to think...sheesh, sometimes my itty-bitty Canon Elph is ridiculously annoying when it doesn't fit in some of my fave nighttime clutches! Ansel is an artist whose pictures are known around the world...he captured some of the most captivating scenery using only black and white!

So...I dare you, have a go! I've used Ansel's amazing White Tree print above as a starting point. I've put together two ensembles around the same 'color scheme' or, lack thereof! One is more appropriate for daytime FUN (on the left: take away heels...add flats = daytime) and BOTH are 100% gorgeous for a night out on the town!

There are some incredible pieces I want to highlight in the collage, via Polyvore, above. The TIE-FRONT BLOUSE is going to last you right through Fall/Winter so make sure to add that as a staple to your wardrobe soon. GLADIATOR SANDALS and a classic SKINNY BELT really step those casual white shorts up a 'dressy' notch, don't they? LADY-LIKE accessories and a cali-cool/light-weight SCARF make the second look less about the dress and more about killer complimenting pieces working together as one! But I do have to say, "I...adore...that...dress!"  And lastly...my addition of the Yves Saint Laurent clutch is obviously commemorating the passing of the brilliant designer, himself, earlier this week!

So, on a brighter but color-less note...I have a mission for you! This weekend, strive to put together a black and white ensemble that will turn heads and release your inner artist, even if it's not inspired by an Ansel Adams picture, like mine was! Enjoy!

Outfit Inspiration: Shopping and a Pedicure à la Andy Warhol's 'Marilyn Monroe'

Andy_warhols_marilyn_monroe

(Click for More Info and Where to BUY!)

Outfit Inspiration is just what it says...a way for ME to show YOU that you can gather inspiration for killer ensembles from nearly ANYTHING!!! Today's inspiration is from another one of the greatest masters of all time...the famous artist, Andy Warhol.

Artist Andy Warhol became the first artist to recognize the artistic potential of the screen printing process, which up until then had only been used in industry to print packaging. It allowed Warhol to mass produce paintings in his New York studio 'The Factory' with the help of his team of assistants, and saw the birth of the Pop Art movement (got that info from here). We're not really going to talk 'art class' today...but we did use Warhol's fabulous bright/bold color palette to create a lust-worthy pedi/shopping day look, just for you!

Glancing above, you will see the Polyvore assisted collage is rich in BOLD and BRIGHT colors just like Warhol's Marilyn Monroe is! NEON is all the rage and adding a small dose to your ensemble is a sassy spin on this huge, new trend. As I'm actually racing out the door to get a pedicure with a good girlfriend (birthday present for her) I started imagining what I might sport if I had the time to throw it all together. Above is precisely what I'm feeling like wearing...but don't have time!

Here we go...a white VEST and paper-bag shorts, paired with bright PINK wayfarers...a hat to keep the sun off and then a big pink re-usable shopping tote. Espadrilles that are open-toed for pretty painted toesies and some awesome accessories tie the whole look together. Do notice I'm bringing my own polish for any later touch-ups to allow the pedi to look it's best and well, get my money's worth. Bright pink lipstick and some pretty perfume will also be in my bag! So...as I hustle out the door, in my long black MAXI DRESS and flip flops...if I had the time, I'd race back in my room and walk out truly dazzling like a Warhol painting! Enjoy!

Outfit Inspiration: A Day at the Beach à la Vincent Van Gogh's The Starry Night

Vincent_van_goghs_the_starry_night

(Click for More Info and Where to BUY!)

New Category Alert!!!! Outfit Inspiration is just what it says...a way for ME to show YOU that you can gather inspiration for killer ensembles from nearly ANYTHING!!! Today's inspiration is from one of the greatest masters of all time...the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh. The Starry Night, residing at the Modern Museum of Art in New York City, is one of the most reproduced paintings of all time. Your sweet eyes might have seen it in real life...if so, you will attest to it's beauty, I'm sure. We're not really going to talk 'art class' today...but we did use Van Gogh's fabulous color palette to create a lust-worthy beach day look, just for you!

Glancing above at the Polyvore assisted collage, you will see the color palette is rich in yellows, golds, blues and greens. A MAXI DRESS is just perfect for the cool Spring nights transitioning into warmer Summer ones. The Emilio Pucci Love Print Bikini ties the whole look together and nearly looks like a mini Van Gogh. The aqua blue Gucci Beach Bag is drool-worthy and perfect for running errands and grocery shopping! Naturally, the white wide-brimmed hat will keep the sun off of your face while the Chanel aviators will shield your eyes too!

Hope you also enjoy seeing a bit of a Personal Peek at what I'd actually have in my beach bag; perfume, sunscreen, a brush...and I'd already have a killer pedicure in navy to show off my tan tootsies! So...just a little beachy keen, ensemble FUN to kick off your weekend in style! Hope you're inspired and now look at Van Gogh in a much different, more 'fashion-forward' light!
