RWD Home: Deck the Halls for Christmastime

Ahhhhhh, Christmas is nearly here...only a few days away! RWD fam has actually had most of our shopping done for weeks (golf claps) but later today we'll head out for some last minute stocking stuffers, some great Christmas light displays near our neighborhood and possibly a movie. As you can see from the pics below, we love to decorate for Christmas. It's our tradition to do it the first day of December, but this year we still had family visiting for Thanksgiving, so the festive yearly decorating was pushed back a few nights.

Also, RWD Hubby has a cast on his left foot and is on crutches (a ruptured achilles tendon) so we were pretty limited this year in the decoration department (ex: no outside lights)...but he's been SUCH a trooper even with his injury. We had dear friends here in Austin that helped us pick/get our Christmas tree into the house which was such a blessing because RWD Hubby carrying a tree on crutches...yeah, NOT gonna happen.

Well, without further ado, today's post aims to inspire new decorating techniques (both silly and sentimental) and just get us all geared up for this awesome holiday season. Enjoy!

RWD Home: Guest Bathroom Re-haul - Before and After

Guest broom - before

Guest bathroom - after

So we're moving right along here with our home re-design projects. Since my entire family was in Austin for the Thanksgiving Holiday...RWD Hubby and I knew the upstairs guest bathroom needed some serious updating. Handwriting and smudges on the walls, old wallpaper remnants and a hideously un-kept space meant we had some serious work in front of us. RWD Fam spent an entire day and evening getting this guest area in pristine condition for visitors.

Some of my favorite additions are the accessories and the gorgeous shade we decided to use on the walls. It has only a hint of color. Again we went with Freshaire brand low-VOC paint at Home Depot and chose the color Poetic Light. Is this a complete re-haul? No way. We still have the cabinets to paint and possibly re-do the counter-tops and the huge, over-size, out-dated mirror. We need to add some wall art and even change the bulbs to all the same bulb style (ridiculous, I know). Below is just an array of affordable and lovely wall art I have an eye on for both the guest bathroom, the master bathroom and the downstairs 1/2 bath. Some are steals, some are deals...but I think they're all very eye-catching. Enjoy!

This is absolutely thrilling. Sharing our awesome home design projects just makes me smile. I hope you enjoy reading them. If so, please do feel free to comment on anything I've left out or any questions you might have. In addition to being as stylish as I can in regards to my fashion choices, RWD fam takes a ton of pride in our home and we love sharing cost-cutting tips with all of our dear readers. The last few weeks we've been busy bees, getting our kitchen to a point where we enjoy looking at it. Oh...my...ick is what I said when I first laid eyes on it's mango, ugly goodness.

First up, we sanded and painted all the cabinets a semi-gloss white and RWD Hub added simple, brushed-silver hardware. We used all low-VOC paints (all the time) and also repainted the walls a Naturalist Gray by Freshaire. We still have so much more to do and even though we came back with a carload from IKEA today, we both still have grander dreams for counter tops and a butcher block and an amazing breakfast nook table and chairs. So, a girl can dream, right? Inspiration below for everything I'd love to have in my dream kitchen. Enjoy!

RWD Home: Welcome to Our Austin, TX...Work in Progress

So there she is.  Our new baby.  What I kindly refer to as the "Mini Mansh!" Featured in the pics is RWD Hubby and our wonderful realtor.  As RWD mentioned earlier, there have been some big life changes and we didn't dare not share them with all our dear readers.  Buying our first home was beyond exciting and needless to say, what a gorgeous first home it is.  The neighborhood is pristinely manicured and has awesome amenities (ex: we can still walk to numerous restaurants, hiking trails, disc golf course, a gorgeous pool and all the sports courts we need.)  All of our neighbors have all stopped by with a warm howdy.  But it's Texas so we had to share that our neighbor directly next to us came over with a homemade lemon meringue pie...it was to die for yum and such a wonderful gesture.

So let me take some time to explain to you WHY I feel the need to share our home with our readers.  As my life is changing, interests change/morph too.  I'm starting to glance through many more home decor magazines and I'd love to share many of our tips with you.  RWD Hubby is quite the handyman (he was a construction project manager for 15 years) so I know he'll have some great ideas for fix-ups around our new abode.  He's also said for years that he'd love to have a furniture remodeling business, now he has this massive man cave of a garage, so we'll just have to see!

I'll be sharing the progression of RWD's home projects and also any of our eye-catching design tips.  You can expect an RWD Home post once a week.  Until then, we have a Saturday chock full with painting our master bedroom a gorgeous and subtle new shade (yes, yes...I'll share pics as the good Lord knows the previous owners did NOT have the same color choices as we like).

We have mega visitors heading into town for Thanksgiving so I'm scrambling to get the guest bathroom at least a tad bit hospitable I've spent some time this morning picking out some awesome design pieces for the bathroom below.  Some dreams...some realities. Hoping to spark some creativity and highlight some great buys out there during this recession.  Enjoy!
